What is actually arranged

A coordinated private event, not a group tour with an add-on. One afternoon and evening are planned around a single objective — the question asked at the right spot, in the right light, with no strangers in the frame — and every moving part is handled behind the scenes so the moment stays a surprise.

  1. The setup

    A reserved stretch of shore away from day-trip landings, dressed with a simple arch or florals, lanterns for after sunset, and a table for two if dinner follows.

  2. The photographer

    Briefed in advance and positioned discreetly — passing as crew until the moment happens, then stepping in for a proper session in the light that is left.

  3. The supply chain

    Florists and licensed beverage partners in Labuan Bajo. Alcohol moves through licensed channels here, so specific labels need lead time rather than improvisation.

  4. The cover story

    The booking your partner sees reads as an ordinary sunset cruise. Signals between you, the crew and the photographer are agreed beforehand.

Labuan Bajo sits close to the equator, so sunset moves only modestly across the year — roughly 17:50 to 18:30 as of 2026. Usable golden light starts 45 to 60 minutes earlier, and that is the window the moment is aimed into. Decor is staged before you arrive and the photographer is in position ahead of you.

Both work. They solve different problems, and plenty of couples do both — the question at anchor, then a decorated dinner ashore.

Kanawa does receive day visitors, so privacy here is a matter of timing. Late afternoon, once the boats have turned back toward Labuan Bajo, is when the shoreline empties.

Boat-deck proposal

Guaranteed privacy from the moment you leave the harbour, with the sunset behind you on open water.

Decor is necessarily lighter and the deck moves, so the photographer works around motion. On a phinisi the saloon also gives you a covered fallback if the evening turns.

How it is planned

  1. Tell the desk in confidence

    Date, beach or boat, and any decor, ring-handling or dietary notes. Correspondence stays with you alone — nothing goes to a shared inbox.

  2. Receive a run sheet

    Timed: departure, staging, the moment, dinner, return. Plus vessel options, photographer availability and a full quote.

  3. Confirm with a deposit

    Florist, photographer, beverage partner and vessel are booked once it clears. Two to three weeks out is comfortable; July and August book earlier.

  4. Final briefing, you only

    A quiet walkthrough of signals and timing, so on the day you can just enjoy the trip.

Can it really be kept a complete surprise?

Yes — that is the core of the service. The booking your partner sees is an ordinary sunset cruise or day trip. Staging happens before you arrive, the photographer stays in a cover role, and the crew works from a pre-agreed signal. You are the only person aboard who knows the real schedule.

What happens if the weather turns on the day?

Every plan carries a fallback: a sheltered deck setup, an adjusted anchorage in calmer water, or moving the moment earlier ahead of a front. If conditions are genuinely unsafe we reschedule inside your travel window rather than force a compromised event.

Do we need a national park permit?

Kanawa sits outside the Komodo National Park boundary, so a Kanawa-only proposal trip does not normally involve park ticketing as of 2026. Extend the day into the park — Padar, Pink Beach, the dragons — and standard fees apply, arranged with the charter.

Can you arrange champagne and flowers in Labuan Bajo?

Yes, through licensed beverage suppliers and local florists. Because alcohol moves through licensed channels here, specific labels need one to two weeks’ notice; house sparkling options are easier at shorter notice.
