What the crew is certified to do
Day boats operate under their own certification track — liveaboard credentials are a different thing. These are the minimums verified before a guest steps aboard.
What the crew is certified to do, what the boat is required to carry, and who decides that a day does not sail. Specifics rather than reassurance — you can check every one of them.

To confirm the safety manifest for your specific vessel and date, ask Komodo Luxury. It is a normal request and the answer is a document, not a reassurance.

By vessel class. The exact manifest for your boat is confirmed at booking.
| Factor | Life jackets | Medical and emergency kit |

The harbourmaster and the captain, in that order, and neither decision is negotiable. Official Indonesian maritime forecasts are monitored in the 48 hours before every departure, and no skipper here is pressured to leave.
If the route closes you choose between a free reschedule to the next available day, a switch to a more sheltered itinerary where seas allow, or a refund of the unused boat portion. Exact terms are on your booking confirmation. Sea state is most changeable in the west-monsoon months, roughly December to March.
This is the one part of a trip where a firm no is the service you are paying for.
Kanawa’s house reef is one of the gentlest entries in the region, and it still has currents.
Snorkel guides are assessed for in-water rescue capability before they lead guided sessions, and at least one crew member per departure is current in CPR and basic first aid.
The regulatory position of the company behind the booking, which is the part most operators leave vague.
Kanawa Island Guide is an editorial guide within Juara Holding Group. Trips booked through it are fulfilled by Komodo Luxury, operated by PT Komodo Bahari Nusantara, a licensed Indonesian tour operator regulated by the Ministry of Tourism.
A dedicated emergency contact, with response plans coordinated with hospitals in Labuan Bajo and evacuation arranged to larger facilities in Bali when required.
Kanawa itself lies outside the Komodo National Park boundary, so a Kanawa-only day generally involves no park entry ticket. Any route that extends to Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point, Rinca or Komodo does, and those tickets are arranged for every guest before departure.
Inside the park, compliance is part of boat safety rather than separate from it: designated moorings are used rather than anchoring over fragile reef where moorings exist, guests are briefed on wildlife-distance and no-touch rules, waste is carried in and carried out, and ranger or licensed-guide accompaniment is arranged wherever an itinerary requires it.
The pages that carry the underlying documents and rules.
If safety is the deciding factor for your group — small children, a nervous swimmer, a medical condition — ask Komodo Luxury to confirm the vessel, the crew certification and the equipment list for your date before you pay.
Jellyfish do show up seasonally, especially around the west-monsoon months when currents push more plankton through the area. You should always wear a rash guard or thin wetsuit, and avoid snorkeling at dawn, dusk, or after heavy rain when visibility drops. Stonefish and urchins live in the shallows, so never stand on the reef or seagrass. If you feel a sting, alert the crew immediately so they can rinse, assess, and decide whether to return to Labuan Bajo.
There are no fixed beach lifeguards on Kanawa. Supervision comes from the boat crew and, on dive days, from the dive guides in the water with you. On a Kanawa-only day trip, you stay within easy swim distance of the beach and your boat, which remains anchored on standby. Children, weak swimmers, or anyone anxious in open water should use a life jacket and stay within arm’s reach of a confident adult or guide at all times.
Tipping is not mandatory, but crews rely on it and will not build it silently into the fare. For shared trips, people usually hand a single envelope to the captain or guide to share with deck crew; private charters often tip as a group at the end of the day. Bring small notes in cash, as you cannot rely on card machines or ATMs on the island. When you receive your written quote or boarding briefing, ask whether a service charge is already included.
Ask for the boat’s manifest and crew certifications in writing before you transfer any money. A serious operator will send you the vessel name, capacity, safety equipment list, and the skipper’s SKK number, plus details of first-aid and oxygen carriage. When discussing itineraries such as a Kanawa stop combined with other sites, you can also review boat options through Komodo Luxury’s Komodo boat trip overview and request that same level of detail by email or WhatsApp.
To turn this into a concrete plan, ask for a written quote that specifies the boat type, safety gear, and any Kanawa access contribution. You can start with selected day itineraries on Komodo one-day trip packages or look at private options on Komodo Luxury’s speedboat charters, then confirm details directly via WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875 or email sales@komodoluxury.com.
